how to install and configure unattended upgrades in debian linux

1- sudo apt install unattended-upgrades

2- sudo vi /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades (uncomment and/or edit options to use)

3- sudo vi /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/20auto-upgrades

add the following and save file:

APT::Periodic::Update-Package-Lists "1";
APT::Periodic::Download-Upgradeable-Packages "1";
APT::Periodic::AutocleanInterval "7";
APT::Periodic::Unattended-Upgrade "1";

4- systemctl status unattended-upgrades (to check status)

5- sudo unattended-upgrades –dry-run –debug (to check if it works)

5- cat /var/log/unattended-upgrades/unattended-upgrades.log in a few days to check log
